Chatbox Fix for Internet Explorer

ONLY use this fix if you need to fix the chatbox in Internet Explorer and you DO NOT use Firefox to browse the internet.

This fix WILL DEFINITELY disable flash in Firefox.
PLEASE PRINT THIS BEFORE CONTINUING ANY FURTHER!!!


This fix is ONLY for those who can't use the chatbox in Internet Explorer. Firefox useres SHOULD NOT use this fix at all. You have been forewarned!!


WARNING: If your chatbox works fine in Firefox and you like using Firefox to chat in the chatbox, then STOP, go no further

WARNING: If your chatbox works fine in Internet Explorer then STOP, go no further

WARNING: This is the chatbox fix for Internet Explorer. This fix WILL break your usage of Flash in Firefox, so STOP and go no further, if you use firefox to browse the internet



If you continue from here on, then please know that this fix IS NOT guaranteed, but it WON'T make matters worse.


Install Flash 8 from here:

Click past any error that may occur

Go to the Windows/System32/macromed/Flash directory and copy the flash8.ocx file to the desktop



Install the latest version of flash 9 from here:

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BUIGP

Close Internet Explorer

Go to the Windows/System32/macromed/Flash directory and find a file that looks like flash9f.ocx. The letter could be different than f.

Rename the flash8.ocx file on the desktop with the same name as the one in the Flash Folder. i.e. flash9f.ocx

Rename the flash9f.ocx file to anything different

Copy the flash9f.ocx from your desktop to the Flash folder



If this fix causes you ANY problems, then you can totally undo it by uninstalling flash 9 here:

and then reinstall Flash 9 here:

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BUIGP

    Try resetting Flash 9 using the steps at the bottom, then start at the top again.

    I think it's more a case of Flash making itself compatible with the Cb. Unfortunately, this is the only fix we have for now that is easily reversible.

    Well, this works great for fixing the chatterbox and other chats on Storywrite...unfortunately, it messed up everything else on my computer! Do you know if they're going to try to make the CB compatible with Flash 9?

    Hmm.

    The link you gave for flash 8 takes us to a download for flash 9.

    Note: I installed Flash 9 several times and used this fix each time to bring the chatbox back in Internet Explorer without any issues.

    Both chat boxes work with this fix ... big and small.

    I'm not aware if this fix will cause any issues, which is why I also provided a way to go back to Flash 9.
