Adding Friends... A 'How To' Column

You’ve found someone on Storywrite that you like to read, or just like to talk to, and you’d like to continue reading them or talking to them. Well, you could use your computer bookmark/favorites to mark their page…but that doesn’t help if it’s not your computer.

On StoryWrite(as well as the other Social Design© sites), you have the option of adding a person as your ‘friend’.  This would mean that regardless of the computer you are on, you can see when they are logged in, and will receive a system message when they post a story or a contest. It works both ways, since they will also see when you are online and post a story or contest.

How do you add someone as your friend?

On the left hand side of every author page, there is a link that says ‘Invite ‘author’s name’ to be your friend’. Click on that, and a note will appear that says "Include a message with your friendship request?", along with a message bar, and a 'send' button - they will get an instant message with a confirmation link. You'll get a note if they accept your offer.’

The other person gets a message that says: ‘Author’ invites you to be friends. (reason you typed in). Accept the friendship?’ When they click on the ‘accept’, then they are added to your friends list. You’ll know when you get a message that says: ‘Author’: ‘Author’ accepted your offer of friendship!

Another way to add a friend is to click on the ‘Friends’ link in the top menu bar, and fill out the little form.

If you get an invitation from someone you don’t know, click on the user name, and check out their page. If you feel comfortable about adding them, then add. If you do not feel comfortable about being on their friend list, then simply ignore or delete the invitation.

Remember though, people are not required to accept your invitation. There are some people who like their friends list nice and short, and limit it to those that they read regularly.

Have fun with the list, and with those you read!!!!
