Hi boys and girls. I see some of you have gone...for good! Others tell me the dog ate their homework! But some of you...have shown up! YOU are the ones who will succeed. Persistence is the KEY!
Now...did you ever find yourselves on the wrong side of the right word? Or on the right side of the wrong word? Check these out and make sure...you're on the right side of the mirror:
Ever say: COMPLECTED........when you meant COMPLECTIONED
Ever say: ORIENTATE.........when you meant ORIENT
Ever say: IRREGARDLESS......when you meant REGARDLESS
Ever say: ENTHUSED..........when you meant ENTHUSIASTIC
Ever say: RECUR.............when you meant REOCCUR
Well, the words on the left are totally incorrect! But:
Ever say: CEMENT............when you meant CONCRETE?
Ever say: CONTAGIOUS........when you meant INFECTIOUS?
Ever say: SYMPATHY..........when you meant EMPATHY?
Ever say: ENORMITY..........when you meant ENORMOUS?
Ever say: EPITOME...........when you meant THE BEST...THE TOP?
Ever say: EQUITABLE.........when you meant INIQUITABLE?
Ever say: CRITERIA..........when you meant CRITERION?
Ever say: COMPRISED.........when you meant COMPOSED?
Ever say: CHRONIC...........when you meant ACUTE?
Ever say: ALLUSION..........when you meant ILLUSION?
Ever say: ILLUSION..........when you meant DELUSION?
Ever say: DELUSION..........when you meant HALLUCINATION?
Ever say: HALLUCINATION.....when you meant MIRAGE?

Remember, for the most part, NO TWO WORDS IN THE LANGUAGE HAVE THE IDENTICAL MEANING!...AND SOME...ARE SIMPLY INCORRECT!
And if the prefix "IN" means NOT...how do explain the words:
Flamable and INFLAMABLE...and Valuable and INVALUABLE?
AND...CAN YOU DEFINE ALL THESE WORDS...DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEM?

Yeah, I've gone through that. The hard part is that when you're writing, it becomes hard to notice the, "wrong side of the right word or the right side of the wrong word."
It is important to know the meanings to words. The thing is that in High School, which is where you begin to learn the "sophisticated" words, the students learn them because they have to. The meanings of the words are lost and they are left with a number of words that sound the same but have different meanings.
So, for those who should've paid attention in class but didn't - which is probably most of us - we need a dictionary beside us. You don't even need to look in a book. Go online and find a dictionary, not hard at all.
