What's one book/series that you would love to see be made into a movie, and which is one you wouldn't want to see be made into a movie?
I would want to see Terrier, by Tamora Pierce become a movie, and I wouldn't want to see... hm... a remake of Ella Enchanted(that was just totally sucky compared to the book) if it pretty much had the same script of the last movie.
....
Maybe I shoulda put this in "Writing Related".... Whatev. -
OH come-on!!! At least SOMEONE put what they think!!!!!

Desperate, aren't ya?

love to see be made into a movie - Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon (the story! The action! The totally hot guys!)
wouldn't want to see be made into a movie - Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon
TPTB (The Powers That Be) would just screw up the entire series, making it some cheesy vampire movie and miss the whole damn reason for the series in the first place... or they'd center on one character, and leave out so much information that it would tank. Plus, some flavor of the week hottie who can't act would get the lead and kill any chances of it being a half decent movie.
There's a 30 second commercial/trailer for the up-coming 'Acheron' book... the author explains on her myspace blog how the commercial is done by the same that did Spiderman 3, so it's a big deal thing. They picked the actor, and she even admits that he wasn't what she pictured as her own creation... but he was cast as such. -
Lords of Avalon by Kinley MacGregor(sp?) would be good, too...
-
Hm... never read those, but they sound good!

any Superhero character has the potential of being either the greatest movie ever, or the crappiest movie ever, depending on writer/director/producer etc etc etc
would love to see Preacher comic done as a movie, if they just did a word for word, scene for scene copy of the initial story-arc of the first several issues -
there are several books that i want to be movies... uh... i cant think of any right now but ill tell you one thing; i was excited about the book Eragon coming out as a movie but it sucked.
-
erogon movie sucked so bad that i only vaguely remember seeing it
-
-
OMG, I totally agree.

Elmeresia-
I completely agree with you on Ella Enchanted. It's been one of my favorite books for as far as I can remember and I was thoroughly dissapointed when the movie came out.
I know it's not a fair comparison when comparing a book to a movie because there will be far too many differences as a give-in, but with Ella Enchanted it was as if they didn't even attempt to follow the story-line at all. -
-
I know! And I mean, what was with adding that stupid/evil uncle? *sighs*

the Pern series by Anne McCaffrey.
Barbra - Did you know that Kinley McGreggor IS Sheralyn Kenyon? lol And I agree, they would be awesome, but I hate it when a good book gets ruined by Hollywoodisms. grrr -
-
I knew they were the same person. I've read nearly every book by her....and am patiently waiting for Aug 5 when 'Acheron' is released. Then I shall vanish to read it.
-
-
Same here. I haven't read any of the McGreggor stuff yet (I don't get to the library or book stores anywhere near as often as I'd like) But I'm working on it. lol

Oh hey, what about the Honor Harrington series by David Webber? That could be good.
-
the watchmen is going to be made into a movie, i've been told that the filming is already over and all that's left is "post production" editing-type stuff
who thinks this is going to be a good movie?
who thinks this movie's gonna totally suck? -
-
Well, I've never read Watchmen, as I was never a comic book guy, so I'm fairly unbiased
It looks good; I just hope some knowitall doesn't start screaming "That's not how it happened!"
Seriously people, it's a movie. If it's not exactly like the book, there's a reason.

im gonna go with suck
i cant imagine the scene were the comedian shoots the vietnamese hooker thats carrying his child making it into a hollywood movie. -
-
it'll prolly end up as one of those "extra footage"/"deleted scenes" on the "unrated" DVD

Personally I dread any movie version of a book that I love.
I have my own vision of how the characters look, sound and act and am scared that it will be messed up by studio suits who often have no idea what they are doing. However if you can get a strong visionary film maker behind a project who is a fan and also the author is working on the project, then it can be different. A prime example of this would be Peter Jackson and Lord of the Rings.
I was scared when Warner's were threatening to make Kelley Armstrong's werewolf novel, Bitten (one of my faves) starring Angelina Jolie. Luckilly they dropped the option. Angelina is so not Elena Michaels. -
-
I agree...
I agree Nick, but one of my favorite passtimes is to put together my own dream cast for books I would like to see as a movie. That's a lot of fun to do with people who love the same books you do. =D

i just saw Ironman yesterday
that was a good theatrically released film based on pre-existing characters
way better than the X-men Trilogy IMO
