Adult Content Policy

The adult content policy is ridiculous. First off, the fact that fifteen year olds can read it speaks for itself. Also people's ideas of "adult language" and "adult material" vary. I don't see why I need to label my works as "adult" if I talk about a vagina or I throw out a few bitches. It's not "adult content". It's not written by an adult or for an adult. Adults aren't reading it. It shouldn't be lumped in with erotica. "Vulgar" should be a sufficient category.
  • Brittany,

The category system exists throughout all the sister sites be it AllPoetry, StoryWrite etc....

The point behind the tags "Adult" "Erotica" and "Abuse" is that they prevent minors (of which we have a considerable amount) from getting access to material of such nature. The term "adult" simply refers to the fact that if a minor chose to write it thats fine, they may have access to their own pieces, it does not mean other minors are entitled to see it solely because of that reason.

The site's policies have been in effect since the creation of the Social design sites, and we have amongst the best child protection policies online, the very fact that you consider a post about a vagina suitable for the viewing of a minor (having read the piece) is concerning to say the least.

    Per the policy itself:

"You cannot: Post Stories and comments with sexual themes without including them in an adult, erotic, or adult humor category"

This is a privately owned site, of which it's policies you agreed to upon joining, you can't click the box to say you agree to them and then come in and start kicking and screaming when it suddenly emerges that you don't, i'm afraid it just doesn't work that way.

I hope this clears up and resolves the matter once and for all.

    • A fifteen year old is a minor and they're still allowed to view "adult content". This doesn't seem to concern you at all though does it? Seems a little backwards to me. I don't care who's allowed to view adult content and who's not. I'm not trying to market my works to preteens. I just feel as though "vulgar" should be sufficient category because adult has other implications at times and is misapplied.

Why was I directed to this forum when nobody is adressing it other than saying "it's the site policy". I know it's the site policy, I'm saying maybe it should be changed.

No it doesn't clear up and resolve the matter but thanks for the attempt.

It doesn't matter what I say you're just going to probably cut and paste from some general mod response and post the policy once again for me to read as if I haven't already. Yay storywrite.
      • You'll get no generic response from me i assure you, but you'll get no different stance from anyone else either.

The bottom line is your post, is not fit for the viewing of a minor, ie: anyone under the age of 15, vulgar is not a sufficient category as vulgar can have various meanings, adult content does not change, and a post about a vagina despite what you argue is adult, a spade is in fact a spade.

The simple fact is, this policy will most likely never change, the posts are categorized as a security and safety measure and this is something we take very seriously.

If you feel that being asked to add a category to a piece is too much for you to comply with, perhaps the Social Design sites are simply not the sites for you? I ask you though, for the sake of one word, is all this nonsense really worth it?
