I don't usually write with music on, but I like to listen to music beforehand to get into a certain mood. For some reason Coldplay inspires me. What about you?
-
Apocalyptica, Ozzy, Debussey, Garou, and Hedley.
This week.
Next week it'll be a new song list. -
-
Omg, Barbara!! I'm listening to Apocalyptica right now...they're amazing! Thanks for introducing me
-
-
No prob
-
-
-
Jazz,Michael Buble, soft sissy crap.

I had to think about this one.
I tried Apocalyptica but I just end up rocking and forget about writing.
Sometimes Ray Charles and Miles Davis do the trick too. -
-
Hey, headbang enough to Apocalyptica, and you're bound to type out a few sentences with your head.
-
-
I can't sit down and rock out
lol
I have used Korn as inspiration in the past. I guess it depends on the song and how 'good' the band is, whether or not I can stay focused. -
-
I have to listen to their 'classical' inspired songs when I write. (I do the rocking thing, too... or swaying at times, when it's "Faraway".)
Lately,
I've been listening to the soundtrack to
Spamalot.
('Always look on the bright side of life'... and yes, I do the whistling)
-
-
Thats one musical that is actually on my list to see! lol
I've seen Wicked, the Lion King and Chicago. Might have to travel to NYC to catch spamalot. I don't think they're coming back here anytime soon.
Never tried to listen to any of them while writing though...

-
-
-
hmmm i should try Apocalyptica
-
-
Everyone should!
(I'm on a one-woman mission to spread their music
)

The type of music would have to depend on the mood of the story you want to write.
Personally, I like listening to Blue October, Green Day, or Anti-Flag while I write (huge variety of rock ;D) -
Nightwish, Loreena Mckennit, Enya, Epica, most new age, all celtic, and almost anything with unique orchestral/symphonic sounds that portray images in the way classical music is intended to.
-
It depends on what kind of story that I'm writing, although I love to listen to Weezer, Coldplay, The Killers, Keane, Panic! At the Disco, Paramore, the list goes on and on. ^_^;;
-
-
katie, you just listed a lot of my favorite bands
-
-
It changes a lot, but I like to listen to classical music while I'm writing.
-
O_o
Lol, I did? I listened to Panic! At the Disco a lot while writing 'Accepted', but just their first album. -
-
cool!! i love their newest album
-
-
I like their new song, 'Nine in the Afternoon'.
-
Well... it comes down to my two favorite bands: Boston and Dave Matthews Band... or I'll listen to my mixed classic rock CDs (it's not old, it's classic
)
I like music that hasn't been totally copied from some famous predecessor(s)
-
I always listen to Korn when writing. I turn it up really loud and just write, so I'm totally not sure if it's helping me or not. My favorite to listen to is Take a Look in the Mirror, but also their Greatest Hits vol. 1.
-
I suck at listening to music an writing at the same time.
-
i like listening to the artists that refuse to have their music on radio/telivised music videos, so i'm prolly listening to artists that most of you have prolly never heard of, but i also like listening to the bands listed on this thread, listening to music doesn't really seem to help me write though
-
Evanescence & L'Âme Immortelle
-
I usually have a hard time writing to music with lyrics. I usually have to listen to stuff by Hans Zimmer though. His music has a lot of emotion and feeling to it, a lot of energy. It really helps me fit the mood I'm writing.
-
I've always found that Metallica and Evanescence has helped me write.
I'm about too publish my new book, but I don't know how. -
Definitely Nine Inch Nails and A Perfect Circle for me, both have songs that fit my every mood.
-
tbh, i dont
music just distracts me. -
Any type of Christian Contemporary music. I'm not picky about the artist. I also tend to get in a Céline Dion mood, sometimes French, sometimes English. I nearly wore out the "One Heart" CD while writing the first five chapters of my novel. I have a hard time writing without music.
-
Kings Of Leon, The Fray, Cute is what we aim for. All quite different. But when your sister starts blasting 50 cent and other R&B crap in the next room it inspires me to go and kick her chavvy ass
-
For me, it depends on the scene I'm writing, or the character I'm writing about. At the moment I like listening to the stereophonics and was listening to them when I started characterizing one of the main characters in the novel I'm writing.
-
Annie Lennox, Natalie Merchant, Creed, Shinedown, Audioslave and any artist heavy on lyrical artistry as well as the musical.
But generally, I don't listen to music while actually typing, but rather as I am composing and thinking a piece through. The actual writing is quiet as I find music a distraction. -
This week, I have this whole 80s 'blue-eyed soul/punk mixture' going... Paul Young, Adam Ant, Souxsie & The Banshees, Hall & Oates...and so on.
-
it depends on the story. i have this [one of many] post apocalyptic stories i only listen to old folk while writing where as one about people in a night club i listen to techno. i have a 'book' full of depressing stories and poems and i listen to slow sad songs while writing it.
-
dance music for happy stories, slow music for sad stories, and Rock music for love stories. I don't know why rock = love, but it does for me....hmmm.
-
I listen to Nightwish when I'm writing... though sometimes I get lost in the music rather then my story
