I found this website, and thought that a few others might find it informational and maybe save some headaches down the road.

"Warnings About Literary Fraud and Other Schemes, Scams, and Pitfalls That Target Writers"
    http://www.sfwa.org/beware/contests.html

There are some great links at the bottom, like 'Contests and agencies to avoid', and 'Advice On How To Sell Poetry'...which could probably work for fiction, too.

    that site is cool

is one of the best "what not to do" guides i seen on the net.

but seriously, anyone who gives money to an agent or publisher has a major misunderstanding of how the industry works.
  • I read both of the articles and they were very helpful.

you don't need to read the site

    bottom line here
if the author pays any money out of pocket, it's a scam

Many legitimate contests do request a small entrance fee to cover administration and financial prizes, however they would never request a fee to publish or purchase anything if you win the contest. Legitimate contests willingly post their guidelines, prizes, judges and contest rules. It's been advised that any 'fee' over $35 be checked for possibility of scammers.
