I love HP! I've always been into all things magical and HP seems to make it more realistic. Like, that could actually be going on. It's amazing.

Liked the books, but not the movies. Am a big Weasely family fan and the movies leave so much of them out

I enjoyed the way the world expanded as Harry grew old enough to grasp it. Minister of Magic and all that. I liked the way I couldn't just assume I knew how the story would end all the time.

The books were definitely better than the movies, of course.

i did guess how it would end. pretty much guessed the entire plot of the final book. i mean, it was a good storyline, but aimed too much at kids.

That's not what I meant. The ultimate end was a foregone conclusion, sure. It is a children's/YA series, after all, and we can't have millions of kids traumatized when Voldemort eats Harry's heart out or something.

I'm referring to the subtle way she worked details into her plots, book by book, and how they built on each other as time went on, not just that Harry wins and Voldemort loses.

I might actually pay to see that movie.
As for the books and movies...well I'd rather not say.

The movies sucked, minus the first and sixth. The books were good, but a bit drawn out in my opinion (especially the last one). It was really written for you to read them as you grow up. The first one is written so that someone in 6th grade could read it, and the books that follow require progressively higher reading levels. I honestly don't know how my perception of the books is skewed, as I could read at a post-colledge level in 7th grade. Essentially I read them like that, and I really enjoyed the books. I don't think I would enjoy reading the first book over again now.

She killed off Snape. Sorry, that just totally had me hating that book. Plus the poor house elf dying.
I loved the series and got started reading them by a 8yo who was having a really hard time learning to read. She LOVED HP, had the first book read to her. She was given the 2nd book and the person that read to her could only come once a week, so when I babysat her, I reread the 5 pages the person had read on the sunday (I babysat her thursdays)and allowed her to read 1 page extra. SHE had to read it out loud to me and that is not an easy book for someone who was reading at 1st grade level. Sure I got in trouble for doing this as they had some rule about not reading ahead, but I stopped getting yelled at when she came home from school with a merit card for reading

No one can tell me that HP has not gotten non readers to read.
And that is the main reason I love the series, as well as the characters in it. Apart from Dumbledore, no fan of his.

I'm not sure Snape had much of a future in his world, after the Dark Lord was defeated. I mean, his whole existence became living a lie to bring down Voldemort for killing off his beloved Lily. Once he's done that, really, there's nothing else for him. He had no friends whom he didn't betray or personally kill (I'm looking at Albus here). No one in the Order of the Phoenix got along with him, nor truly trusted him either. At the very end, in the epilogue, Harry got how important and brave Snape was, but that's because he was there at the end and experienced his memories. I don't know if anyone else would be able to suspend years of distrust to hang out with Snape at a tentacula barbecue, tossing back butterbeer.

So it was probably a kindness to let the man rest in peace.

Snape is her character. She can make him a Drag Queen if it fit with the story line.

The subtle touches as Vaal mentioned, are what drew me into HP and made me the crazy, and headstrong, fan I am now. XD The little things that you'd think were just random plot devices (like the basilisk) all click together in the sixth and seventh books and it's like "".

        Its very tasty!!!!!!

lol - its special sauce! It goes with buns, chips, sauages and all types of meat ! HP sauce, or “brown sauce” as it’s commonly known in the UK, is a popular condiment found throughout the British Commonweath of Nations like as Canada & Australia.

Dont believe me check out: http://www.brownsauce.org/faq/

The ingredients of HP Sauce are:

        Water
        Vinegar
        Dates
        Glucose-Fructose
        Black Strap Molasses
        Tomato Paste
        Modified Cornstarch
        Salt
        Orange Juice Concentrate
        Onion
        Spices
        Tamarind Extract
        Apple Juice Concentrate
        Garlic
        Chili Peppers
        Mustard Flour

....And...er guys I do realize how sad this makes me seem but at least its alot more healtheir than drugs and organised religion.

Oh, I also hated the way she killed off all the "minor" characters so she could keep the mains alive. I accept that people had to die, she couldn't keep EvERYONe alive, but it was so unrealistic having Harry, Ron and Hermione (and, did anyone notice, the teachers and Ron's parents) all survive.
I also didn't like that Molly Weasly defeated Bellatrix - my impression of her was she was lovely, but no great witch, and Bellatrix was pretty damn strong.
  • i thought/think its AWESOME!!! The books are WAY better then the movies, not that I don't like the movies, but the books are better. I hate it when people only watch the movie instead of reading the books....
Also, I am mad that the 6th movies skipped so darn much!!!!!! I didn't like that it focussed mainly on the romances going on, when there was so much more to the book. That is all,

Harry Potter... My honest opinion is that it's a clever idea that went ahead of itself a bit. A secret society of cliched wizards? And they go to magic school? Cute, simple, and original. However, as the story went on and on, I feel that Rowling became to concerned with describing the universe. We don't really need to know how magical society works in order for us to understand the story. It's honestly nothing more than fandom fuel. In the end, that's not a bad thing, but it's not exactly helpful either.

Also, there're a lot of fridge logic issues. For example, the level of ignorance among the magic community about muggles. Even magic experts such as Mr. Weasly seem to completely misunderstand some simple things in muggle behavior. While this may seem logical because the magical world is segregated from the muggle world, you have two problems: muggle-borns and squibs. Muggle-borns come from the muggle world, and squibs are encouraged to live in the muggle world, meaning that observation and understanding of the muggle world shouldn't be a problem at all.

There are other problems, such as the lack of language and mathematics classes (arithmancy does not count), or the almost complete lack of non-magic classes for that matter. Just because they're wizards doesn't mean that EVERY aspect of their lives would be about magic.
