Well the title pretty much explains the question, I was wondering what the average word count for each chapter would be on an averagely sized novel?

In sum, it depends on your style and voice. I saw 2k and 3k a lot in the above threads, but there were also those who said they averaged 1k, and at least one that said they didn't use chapter breaks at all. Chapters are just one way to mark where the scene stops, but I've read books that don't have any. Just ***. Tell the story, and don't let the length of any one part get in the way of it.
Mine, personally, average about 3000 words, because I like longer scenes, but I've written a few scenes that were 10k words in and of themselves.
-
Yeah, mine vary a lot. I try to make chapters around 2000-3000 on average and if that means I combine a couple shorter scenes then so be it but I've had both shorter and longer chapters. The current story I'm working on has one that's about 7000 simply because a lot happens in it.
-
mine vary. They are generally 1500-2500K for me, but have been an upwards of 3K and as minimal as 750 words. There's no real set rule on how many words in a chapter, just depends on your own style.
-
Almost exactly 800 words, and that goes for almost anything I write. I jsut magically stop at around 800 for whatever reason.
-
My chapters average between 4,000 - 6,000, but I go anywhere from 800 words, to around 7,000+ words. Depends on what I want to portray with that chapter, really.
-
Before I started posting here, it was normally 5,000-8,000 (sometimes even 10,000+)!
Now, due to people's short attnetion spans, and the fact that you get 10 comments each on a 2,500 word chapter for every 10,000 word one, I do shorter. But they're all very varied lengths now, so anywhere between 1,500 and 4,000. -
-
Totally agree with not posting long chapters on the internet. If I have long chapters in my stories, I try to break them up when posting on here.
You could argue that if the story's good enough then people won't notice how much they're reading but you have to get them to click the link in the first place.

2,000 roundabout. I go higher and lower, but I generally stay within this range.
-
Most chapters that I write range from about 2000-6000+ I should try not to write such long chapters, but I can't help it x]
-
My chapters seem to focus at around 1,000-2,500 on chapter stories or short stories.
-
In my novels I genraly go from 500 words to 1000 words, but it si your own choice for your stories.
-
For me it depends on the story. Usually i go anywhere from 1k to 6k words, but sometimes they are longer, for instance if I'm writing a horror story. Those require more detail, so naturally they're longer.
-
Really depends on the scene I'm writing. Sometimes it will be 1k other times it's far more.
-
I can never figure out when a scene ends and another begins so I just make it one really long runon sentence.
