A very suitable and erudite contest...

I was thinking, which is rather an unusual, nay, extremely rare event in my life. That being the case, I would like to share the results of my cerebration with all of you, and see if you get sore heads too.

What I had in mind was this. On the SW site I have a contest called "I can't understand it", which is an opportunity for people to vent their feelings about odd human activities, like smoking, reading JK Rowling, why we keep elephants, lions hyenas and kangaroos in high rise flats, and other everyday incomprehensible activities.

Then it occurred to me that the accreted wisdom in this group might be worth a look. We have all reached mature ages (I won't say we've grown up, since I've read some of the contributions and know that at least one of you would not accept the concept of being a grown-up!) and thus it might be a good idea to run a contest called "I CAN understand it." Of course, this would imply that you have an insight into why, for example, you might venture up Mount Etna minutes before it's due to blow itself out of existence, why we keep politicians (both the tame and maverick varieties), what the difference is between journalism and PR, the George W Bush and compulsory euthanasia debate, and other easy-to-understand subjects. If this is agreeable, I would like to propose this contest, with suitable circumscriptions for such an evidently intellectual bunch of wrinklies like ourselves. Would this meet with the approval of the group?
