Hey all, I got my first short story accepted for publication. I'm really quite ecstatic! It's not going to net me any cash, but it's a writing credit nonetheless.
I'm like, totally a published author. Or rather, I will be on Oct 16th.
God bless The Absent Willow Review, duotrope.com, and tonialoise, who posted the link to duotrope that got this all started.

Wow, congrats! It's about time someone published you
Do you mind if I ask which story they said yes to? =)
On October 16th, treat yourself to some
and much rejoicing

It was "The Healer of Kyras", a piece that explores the concept of a world with a finite amount of pain to go around, and how quickly that goes sour. I'm all excited that I can put this acceptance on all my future submissions.
I dunno about the "about time" part, though. I only started submitting pieces about 4 weeks ago. I think that's pretty quick, for someone with no writing credits, but then, I'm the newb, so naturally I can't say for sure.
Suffice it to say, I thought it would take a lot longer.

You've a lot of finished stories (not to mention novels!), so I'm surprised to hear you've just started submitting them. The fact that you got a nod so quickly makes this doubly awesome, though =) 'grats again!
The premise is intriguing (Finite pain? It sounds nifty to begin with, but in a "too good to be true" sort of way)
I'll have to check it out =)

Eh, I wasn't writing for anyone but myself until recently. It was just a hobby to entertain myself with. One day last year I decided to see if I could learn to write well enough to get published, since it's basically free to try, compared to training in other crafts. Apparently the answer is Yes.

Absent Willow Review is a free ezine, stories right up front. Perhaps the ezine's font will lend the tale a modicum of professionalism or something. I know it's going to weird me out to see my story over there at first.
And yes, I'm going to go look at it.
This glow will wear off eventually, but for now, I'm highly amused at how happy it's making me.

wow, that's a quick time frame. I've been submitting pieces for over a year (granted not regularly) and have only one that's been accepted into an anthology. The last few weeks I've been trying in earnest and have had no bites.
So again, congrats, it only shows how talented you are!

Congratulations! Way to go!
One step closer to getting a novel published!

Ooh, a cookie, mmmm! Thanks; that's exactly my plan. That novel's basically complete, but I wanted a few writing credits to sprinkle on that cover letter, like chocolate chips.
Sweeten the deal, as it were. I am finding the short story submission process a bit addicting, though. I've gotten several new ideas in the last few weeks, and though they're not all written, a handful of them are already out for consideration.

Congrats!

An actual published author on sw, I never thought I'd live to see the day. That's a pretty good short story too.

Congrats! I've been reading the Absent Willow Review now and then, and they pick good stuff. :-) I can't wait to read your story!
-
Well done and many congrats Val - you deserve to be published

WOOOOOO!!!!!

CONGRATS!!!! THAT'S AWESOME!

-
I never congratulated you. >.<
Sorry. -
-
My keen sense of vocabulary tells me you technically still haven't.
Thanks, though. I've got a long way to go to get as many credits as you do. There's a lot of horror publishing going on out there, and not as much, it seems, of fantasy, so it's unlikely to happen. It sure is fun when it happens, though.

www.pillhillpress.com has a fantasy anthology going on. you should check them out and sub.
