Words Your Fingers Misspell

    I know how to spell, but some days my fingers try to hide that fact. There are a handful (ahaha) of words that I simply can't spell right the first time. My fingers have memorized some other pattern of letters, and I'm constantly correcting the same typos.

    Here's the words I'm always messing up on (I'll add if I come across any more):

    chamber = chamger

    magic = macig

    white = whice

    window = dinwod (this sounds like an insult to me. You dinwod!)

    weird = werid

    Storywrite = Stowyrwite ()

    Maybe I have tactile dyslexia? I mean, I do know the right order of the letters, but honestly, time and again, my fingers type it a different way, and it feels right to them, until my eyes get a look at what they've spelled, and I realize I've made a mistake.

    Anyone else have bad spelling in your fingers' muscle memory?

    I spell a word wrong and it seems right then I do spell check and that word seems wrong, but of course it is right--then I get confused and spell it a third time completely different.

    Some words I will never spell right and have to find a another word that means the same thing. The spacing between words and (,:. etc.) I never get right, during writing the spacing seems wrong but then it isn't.

    I thought I was the only one here with that problem and that there was something wrong with me (he,he) glad to know that's not the case--well, as far as that's concerned. *smile*

    Actually, yeah I do, but I can't think of any common errors (although I did just put "dot" instead of "do")
  • I have a huge problem with they. I always accidentally type it as the.

      I do that too!
      Or I try to type the, and type they.
  • t he is my biggest problem
  • Oh, I do see people put you instead of your pretty often. "What's you problem?" It always makes me laugh... even when I do it.
  • Yeah, hte is a big one (the) and something else...oh its soemting instead of something. I just did it again. And with again I keep going to against.
  • bothe and withe instead of both and with, when I'm writing with a pen. It's like /the/ is so ingrained in my brain, that any th is immediately followed by an e. I'm sure there are some that I have problems with while typing, but either spell check gets them automatically, or I just can't remember (possibly because the rest of the finger memory is in hitting the delete button and fixing it).

    I get "weird" round the wrong way sometimes as "wierd". But that's probably because I used to think it was spelled that way right up to mid high school (if not later).

    Typos like "teh" are - I'm pretty sure - because your fingers are going faster than your thoughts and because you're not consciously thinking about how to spell the word. Rather you're relying on muscle memory, if that's the right term for it.

    I make quite a few typos. Can't think of any particular ones at the moment although I do tend to press the spacebar too early sometimes... But I always know when my fingers have got it wrong.
  • I'm constantly correcting typos.. but generally my biggest foes are "the", "my/me", "they" (sometimes I type they when I'm meaning to type the, or vice versa) and "from".

    But when you type about 80 wpm, I guess you can expect some typos

    And my laptop also likes to take my spaces from me a lot. I swear I hit that space bar, but when I go back to look- I see that it didn't go through and then I have two words stuck together. lol.
    • I do the my/me thing all the time. When my friend's will read my stories they'll think that I'm giving my character a sudden accent.

    It always comes out of my fingers buisiness and I have to go back and correct it same with opinion--my fingers alway drop an extra p

    "About it" always ends up being "abou tit" for me. It's really really annoying.

      Soooo many times I type "chack" instead of "check."

      I just realized that when I try to type "instead," I do "insted," or "instand."
  • Yeah,

    Often my fingers go into autotype and most anything might appear. Usually the words start with the same letter(s).

    Sometimes I'll be thinking another thought for a moment while I'm typing and an entirely unrelated word will appear on the page related to what I was thinking and not what I was writing.

    For some strange reason, I keep putting my instead of me. Cutting words off with spaces is another problem. For instance, I will say something just lik ethis and it will look all weird. Teh, adn, wth, aer all typical of me as well.

    Looking at the board, it appears that these are common problems with even the better writers and commenters. I think it's normal, however annoying it may be.

    Mabye I'm grasping for air here, but anyone have any solutions?

    I went to a church meeting that involved different types of Christian churches when I thought of a typo or mental flip I have often had.

    denomination = demonination. That isn't right, is it?

    My best mistake recently was ownly instead of only..LOL
    But I am dyslexic and sometimes I am very convinced the word I have written is correct. Sometimes the harder the word is to spell the easier it is for me.
    Auto correct in word is my best friend at the moment.
