I am a short story writer. I started out with poetry and then wrote a few novels but, like the short story best.
-
Short stories. I have a few long stories I'm working on, but I don't post those online.
-
Poetry belongs on Allpoetry or Sharepoetry. Stories go to Storywrite. Journals go to AllJournal.
-
-
That's the way it should be
-
Absolutely agreed. I find it really annoying that people post poetry on here. if you want to post poetry, go to Allpoetry. It's quite simple.
-
-
Or even if they clicked "Add poem" rather than add story.
You can submit it from here and still have it appear here under "other items." -
-
Even more of a reason to be annoyed! These people have nothing to rely on but ignorance.
-
I clicked on "Add poem" and it tells me "Not in site allowed list!"
-
-
Well, I have a friend who writes poems, and I write stories, so she posts them on here so I am told that a poem is posted when it is. If she just did it on Ap I wouldn't know it was ever put on because it doesn't tell me on SW. sometimes there are reasons for people to post poems. I'm the only reason she posts poems on here.
-
Once you've added a poem to your page, just click 'add story' and your poems should be included in the drop-down list. They are on mine and I've posted poems on our reading list the last three weeks.
No one in my group minds. They actually like them. Others post poems as well. It's another form of writing. People who don't approve just need to get a life.
You can post pretty much whatever you want in our group. *shrugs*
-
lol. Even SW doesn't want poems.

My time at Social Design Sites
is spent primarily at Storywrite. I don't have time to really keep up with Allpoetry and Storywrite. Also, I have gold memberships at Storywrite and only a silver at Allpoetry. I like the use of gold features. I can't justify or afford the cost of an Allpoetry gold membership at this time.
I don't write a lot of poetry these days, most of the poetry I've written is archived at Allpoetry. When I write a poem or update a song, I post the poem or lyrics now at Storywrite. I have no problem with it. I also have no problem with others doing it.

Agreed.
-
I usually write chapters on here and keep them on a list that no one can see...
I will have it written down but this does help me find flaws that I would not have found in writing.
-
-
Chapters... I tend to write long, which actually this site is helping me to write shorter stories. However a little more than half my stories are chapters of one novel so that's why I chose that.
-
I voted short stories because that is what I tend to write. Having said that, a lot of my "short stories" actually form a series of stories.
I have never had the patience or the confidence to even try writing a novel. -
Most of mine are chapters. I've got a few short stories, but most of them don't fit in the short format.
At the same time, I've nothing in the novel form either.
I'm stuck somewhere in the middle for the time being. *shrugs*
Something I'm working on right now could pave my way into the long format. Not sure yet. We'll see. -
Mine are short stories as in below 2000 words mostly. But now I'm writing a lot of long short stories, like above 3000 (I think it's more fun, they have a complete beginning/middle/end)
I have one poem and one song. Although I have more than 250 poems on Allpoetry, I have have one song and one poem here. If people don't want to read it - then just don't!
Simple as that! I have these here because here I have an established readership as compared to AP where I don't go anymore (too much site drama on Ap!
)
-
It's really hard to say,
but I went for short stories. I write many stories that are a part of a series, that are much like chapters, and I also write chaptered works. If I consider the stories in the series as stories rather than chapters, I have more stories than chapters
.

I only have about five items on here, and they're all chapters.
It's going to be a book (hopefully) but I'm having trouble with it.
I find it hard to create and complete short stories, so ... -
I came here as a novel writer. I've since discovered the joy of short stories, but most of my stories are still chaptered works.
-
I joined so I could read an adult labeled story that I couldn't as a non-member. That was about a year ago, when I didn't have internet access at home. And then recently I came back and found that this site was a very nice environment for someone who was writing novels, like me. So, I have a nice mix of poems and chapters, and maybe one or two short stories.
My shortest story is 1000 words, and poetry is the only thing shorter than that. I read novels and am writing novels, so I can't get behind "1000 word maximum contest hosts". I always managed to destroy the walls of contest word maximums as I can't seem to express myself in so few words.
A flaw maybe?
Hmm...as you can tell, I am incapable of even making short comments.
*Attempts to tie up fingers so that they will stop typ.... -
i stick to poems or short stories cuz i don't like reading chapters on a computer screan, so i don't post chapters. [with one acception, but no one reads it and i stopped posting them]
-
people put most poetry on here because you can get better reviews. People are more willing to read on here that AP
-
I have all my poems and stories and novel chapters here. I find it easier to put all my eggs in one basket--a sturdy one of course, and while it may be annoying when people click and expect to see a story and get a poem--oh, well...they can usually skip it or read it.
I am in too many forums and groups and need to stop skipping about while I am at a forum and keep everything together. So, I have short-short stories, essays, columns, regular short stories, and poems and novel chapters all in the same page. -
How do you define short is the question. For me, a short story is between 501 and 9999 words. Below that is flash fiction and above that are novellas. Of course, I tend to write on the longer side of short.
-
I mostly tend to write short stories and many of them consist of a thousand words or so. But I do write longer stories and then I'm also working on a book! lol
-
It's mostly short stories for me, even though the occasional poem or chapter slips in =)
As for the poem vs story thing, I think that people who mainly (or only) use storywrite should be allowed to post poetry, as long as that's not all they post (cause then they should be referred to ap). I myself have maybe 3-5 poems/songs on here, and I have almost 100 short stories... so it shouldn't really bother anyone, should it? -
Just as a side note:
Anyone complaining about poems being posted in SW should go look at AP.
I started in AP before SW. I was in seven groups and left them all but one because no one ever posted new stuff there.
I just went and looked at my one last group there and there is still a poem I posted in 08 on the reading list. And they were the most active when I left there! You do the math.
That whole site is nothing but a memory to me now. I even dropped my subscription. That place is history.
In my current main SW group, members post both stories and poetry and nobody has a problem with it. Writing is writing people, no matter the form.
If you don't like poems, fine. Don't read them. It's your choice. Just don't be complaining about those who do post them.
I happen to one of them, and I've gotten nothing but good and helpful comments on them.
I would think writers, of all people, would have more open minds.
That's just my opinion of course, but most people I know seem to agree. Take that as you will.
-
I tend to write a lot of short stories, but I think most of what I write are short novels. Therefore, I mainly post chapters here on SW. I still post a lot of shorts, too, I have a good little collection of poetry.
Personally, I just like the design and feel of SW over AP, and the people here are friendlier. But, I'm not getting into an AP debate. Don't see the point.
Anyway, I started out with just daydreaming, more than anything. Then I'd write stories that focused around a 'superhero' style character (usually based on what I wanted to become at the current phase of life). My first story was 4 pages long. Lol.
It was for a fourth grade writing contest. I didn't win or anything, but it didn't stop me from writing. Not sure why... guess I was too young to care.
Anyway, now I write stories a bit longer than 4 pages.
-
People are in such a rush these days! They don't want to spend much time reading anything, so long stories are out. But most of the time I can't tell a story in 2000 words or less!
Truthfully,
Anaya Roma
