Is Horror better getting rid of the Blood and Pain and just leaving the tense in? Personally, I think just having the tense in there is better and the Blood and Pain arn't needed.

Sometimes. I feel it just depends on the plot line on how well which works.

If our plot depends on blood and pain then it isn't much of a story. If you need it for realism, it makes your story better
-
Depends. I prefer thrillers myself, but Horror can be good if it's well-portrayed, and not just; Karen walked into the room to find Michael's inside-out corpse hanging. Blood seeped down and dripped into her astonished open mouth. Then the slasher came and cut Karen's head off. Blood spattered everywhere.
Yeah, that's not a good plot. But if the gore is evenly spaced in the middle of a story with a good, non-cliche plot line, then I say go for it. -
A horror movie can scare me.... I hate blod and gore.
A thriller movie (without blood and gore) can scare the
out of me and make me look at every shadow and jump at every noise.
Sometimes gore takes the place of a sex scene in books... it's there for filler. Other times, it's well written.
Depends on what people like to read, really.

Think Edgar Allen Poe. Though pain can be good--makes the characters more human--blood can be left out...gore isn't always necessary.
