Hi I am Elisabeth, I'm here to try and answer your questions concerning the school, its aims, goal and beliefs.
I am sure you understand that we are very close to bringing this concept to a reality for you all at Storywrite.
I will be as honest and open as I can. However I will protect the privacy of my team.
One member of the Team I would like to mention is Tallblondie, who created the wonderful poll.
If you haven't voted yet, you should. Blondie is very busy with the stats so far.
Expect a slight time delay, I live in Australia, 13-14 hours ahead of most of you.
Ask away
Lis. -
Will there be a cost for these courses?
-
can you explain to me what this academy is? I am new here. I do know who this tallblondie is cause s/he introduced their self to me when I joined. However, I do not believe I have heard of this academy.

The school is a concept of Kevin, the site owner. We're not open yet, but will be soon
At the present time we will be offering 'core' subjects only.
The school is free and the only thing you need to provide is commitment and time to the course you choose.
Special interest 'electives' will be offered later. This will depend on member requests and available teachers.
Tallblondie is a member of the 'Greeters' who welcome new members, such as yourself, to the site. She comes from Australia.
Welcome to Storywrite, Trekkergirl.

Do you have a rough idea when the courses will be available?
-
Do we get expelled if we happen to be absent from the site four a week? I do have school now...
-
-
No, but it would be polite to let your teacher know before you're off site for longer than a week.

Lis. -
-
Is it the same as Allpoetry in the 'Learn at your own pace', 'open entry/open exit' policy? (join when you want, study then leave when you're finished... regardless if it takes a week, or a year? .. can't see someone taking a year, but
)
-
-
BreakingDawn beat me to the same question
(darn the glitch that block out some of the posts until you highlight them...
)
-
It won't be quite the same as AP.
All our 'core' subjects are linked. They're built so they provide a path to the writer's ultimate desire - to be published.
We can't guarantee you'll get published, but we can help you on the way.
Lis.
-
-
-
-
Will they run the same as the the classes on allpoetry? Examples: At our own pace, no due dates for assignments, etc.
-
-
We are actually quite flexible, we're going to trial both ways. A more structured approach and the open, 'learn when you're able' type. We'll be collecting feedback from the students the first month or two. There are pros and cons for both the students and the teachers.
No matter the result, not everyone will be completely comfortable. But we'll try to hit a happy medium.
Lis.
-
-
Why is it free?
-
-
Well, we don't have any 'overheads'
Kevin provides the technical side of things. The teachers provide the course of study on a voluntary basis. So there's nothing to charge you for
Lis. -
-
How can that be? I've seen plenty of writing courses out there which charge for their services. Just how many voluntary teachers do you have?
-
-
We will have nine when we open - and me, the Director, I plan to back up any of the teachers if they need it.

This school is only for SW members. It isn't available to the general Internet public.
Lis. -
-
I hope to be the tenth with Standard English grammar from basic to college level.
-
The site (AP) used to charge 100 points back when I took the courses. It was refunded when the person graduated(I think). That was when it took a while to get the 100 points, so it was like gold... and made it so that students actually attended classes so they wouldn't lose the 100. Also made it so that only those truly interested took the class.

when will we get started I can't wait!
-
-
*scrolls up*
"...'open the doors' in four to five weeks. " -
The teachers are pretty keen too.
First we need to have some courses to offer, ones that will interest, stimulate and educate. This is where we are now, dusting and polishing them.
While you're waiting, you can always do a bit of 'prep' work to get in the mood.

When can I join?
-
Obviously too late but--
since 2006 I have had a forty-unit set of grammar and usage courses available from which to choose, for use here too. Not knowing I should have approached you first, Lis, I posted a detailed description under another forum in Storywrite.
Standard English is my forte at all its levels, and if you still have room, the 2009 (third) edition will be easily accessible from my websites. I am a retired classroom teacher with my M.Ed in curriculum.

ooo! What kind of classes will be taught?
-
-
Short Story writing; Writing for Children; Poetic Prose writing; Essays and Articles; Editing and Proofreading; Writing Novels; Critiquing, reveiwing and commenting. Writers' Toolkit, which covers grammar, punctuation and spelling. Writing Humor and Scriptwriting.
Some of these will be available immediately when we are open. Others will be ready within a few weeks.

I'm in! Can't wait... Is there going to be a bulletin coming out when it's time to join, or...?
I just want to be first in line, if you know what I mean... Unless there's unlimited seating that is... -
So will it be like a sort of Lecture-Assignment sorta thing? Like the teacher will have an explination/lecture of the subject then we complete an assignment having to do with it?
-
Story Academy
I've just joined the site, but I think this is a fantastic idea, and can't wait for it to start! If I'm too late for the opening, then I'll definitely be on the waitng list.
Pam -
Interested :)
I would love to take some of these courses too
