I served in the U.S. Army for nearly 8 years. I spent five years in Germany and four months in Sarajevo. I am now out of the military and back home in Indiana.
I've been blessed with a vivid imagination, and thank God I haven't gotten into trouble with it, yet. I've been writing or creating stories in my head since I was in fifth grade and bumped it up a notch in eighth grade when I was encouraged by an English teacher. Claps for Ms. Peers. I don't know where she is anymore. I lost touch. She told me I had talent and worked with me one-on-one on her own time to help me polish a story. Ever since my mind has wandered in many different directions with story ideas. I have at least six ideas for novels right now, but am only going to work on writing one at a time. God help me.
I host a writer's group at the local jail where I live for the male inmates every Saturday morning. I focus on freewriting and writing to prompts. I've been doing this since October 2007. Some of my contests will feature some of the prompts I've used in the jail.
I am a Jesus freak and am not ashamed of it. I don't believe that I came up with all of my stories on my own. I've had dreams and visions that have led me to write them. I've had great inspiration from the Bible. I studied Biblical Hebrew for 4 semesters at Indiana University and still look to the Hebrew text of the Old Testament for inspiration as well.
I listen to contemporary Christian music from artists such as Natalie Grant, Casting Crowns, Steven Curtis Chapman, Avalon, MercyMe, Newsboys, Jars of Clay, Point of Grace, Third Day, Michael W. Smith, Brandon Heath, Carrie Underwood, Apologetix, The Fray, VeggieTales (I'm a big kid who loves to laugh, okay), 33Miles, etc. when I write. I listen to them most of the time on the local radio station Spirit 95 (95.1FM). Check them out at http://spirit95.com.
I also love to listen to Celine Dion, now Dr. Celine Dion, PhD., in French, English, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, etc. I went to see her live in Las Vegas. That was awesome! I've read much about her and listened to many interviews. Although I couldn't make a dime from my singing, lol, I am inspired by her confidence, humility, humor, faith, and, of course, her voice. Her version of "O Holy Night" is breath-taking.
Favorite song: "Jesus Calling" by 33Miles
What do you see when you look at your world today?
Is it so full of clutter that you feel like you're going insane,
But you can't fight back 'cause you're just too afraid?
And it feels like the clouds in your sky don't wanna change?
You see theres always another story,
Another side to every coin,
But how you see your circumstance is all about a choice.
Chorus:
When you see the rushing wind, feel the pouring rain,
Hear the thunder now as the clouds roll in.
You're blinded by the lightning.
Do you also hear that still, small voice saying it's okay,
You're not alone, you may be scared to death,
But I won't let you go.
You may think the sky above is falling,
But can you hear Jesus calling?
What do you see when you look at your world today?
Do you see a glimmer of hope or has it all turned to gray?
Well, start by counting your blessings one by one,
And I'm sure right there you'll start to see the sun.
You see there's always another story,
Another side to every coin,
But how you see your circumstance is all about a choice.
Because the darker the night, the brighter He can shine.

Favorite Movie(for the moment): Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Favorite TV show: Don't watch much anymore, but I always liked "Touched By An Angel." When I was a teenager I liked "Moonlighting" (I'm giving away my age.lol. Oh yeah, it's listed below.)
Favorite color: Sky blue (symbolic for the Holy Spirit of God)
Pets: I have 3 cats--Rakiki, Lady Vannora, and Naviah. Lady Vannora is the one in the picture with me. She can be a real menace sometimes, but I love her.
Favorite foods and drinks: Coffee, tea, CHEESE (all kinds), chili (the spicier the better), spaghetti, Mom's lasagna, mushrooms, salad (with the works, of course), shrimp, steak, and XS energy drinks. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I like Breyer's Pure Fruit Pomegranate Popsicles and some good German or Swiss chocolate.
Favorite Authors (fiction and nonfiction): C.S. Lewis, Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf, Emily Bronte, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Tim LaHaye, Jim W. Goll, Bill Johnson, and Jack Frost, and all of the writers of the Bible, especially Kings David and Solomon. I also like the Apostle Paul's writing. I took a whole college course on the Apostle Paul, and the more I learned about this writer, the more I liked him and what he had written.
Books I'm reading now: Spiritual Slavery to Spiritual Sonship: Your Destiny Awaits You by Jack Frost. I'm also reading from the book of Daniel now. I'm continuing through the Old Testament. I started at 1 Samuel, don't ask me why, just felt that was the place to start. I'll try to update where I'm at. I'll be reading a little bit every night.
I've studied temperament and how it relates to mental health. Here is a link to a quiz I made up to see where you stand. I hope this helps someone out there:
