Addline: The Call

bluefireroseKatherine stared at the telephone just as she had been doing for the past three days. It had become an obession with her waiting for the call; she stopped going out with friends, she stopped going to work. She hadn't given a thought to food or drink since she began her lonely vigil. No one knew what she waited for; she refused to confess the call's meaning or importance, but it was the most important call of her life. Her blood-shot eyes were weary from lack of sleep, but she willed them to stay open. There were several minutes when she would not even blink for fear of missing that call she longed so despretley for.
xHeartxCupping her nose and mouth, she choked out a long-needed cough, making her realize how cold the room was and how bad her cold had gotten. She tried preventing it in case of missing the sound of the phone ring, but instead made the cough worse. Her hands fumbled around the table for the water, eyes still fixed on the silent telephone, as she grasped around the glass and brought it to her dry lips. Tipping it more and more into her mouth until it was completely vertical, Katherine only then discovered that she had finished it. Rather dehydrate or cough herself to death, she kept herself glued to the spot, watching and watching until tears of anxiousness and frustration escaped her pale eyes. She licked the salty droplets, until a vibration on the coffee table came. It was finally here.
crazybellanzShe launched herself at the phone; it skidded across the table due to the force of her movement and she only just caught it at the edge of the table. Even as she lifted it, she nearly dropped it. Finally, it reached her ear and she heard the words spoken by the person at he other end of the line:

"Katherine? It's Grandma. Did you get the socks I sent you in the mail?"
xHeartxKatherine screamed at her Grandmother, telling her it would be her fault if she missed the important call, and slammed it back down. She started waiting again.
shudibelieveuThe voice in her mind was telling her 'You're going to miss it you know! Yah, that phone call you're waiting for. Not ever gonna happen. The phone doesn't like you!'

Katherine couldn't take it any longer. She starts rocking back and forth in her chair as she stared at the phone. Nothing mattered any more. "Why won't you ring?" she screams at the phone. The Phone seemed to laugh back at her. Then the clock on the wall snickered and smirked as well. Then the phone started to ring.
Beautiful Moi"Hello?" she whispered.

The other end was silent, and Katherine's heart thundered out.

"Hello?" she echoed again.

And finally, the two words she'd been waiting for all this time, were waved back to her. "It's time."

The oceans seemed to dry out, the deserts seemed to turn to sky, the hands on the watch seemed to stop. She wept out tears, all the hard work of waiting days on end were over.

"I'm coming," she said, and just as he hung up, she rushed to her bathroom to get ready and head over to Deadman's Cliff.
