| "Miss? Can you tell us exactly what happened?" asked the nurse who had just arrived with the ambulance. Annbella could hear her heart pounding fast, enabling her to speak. Sweat dripped down her face, and her emotions screamed in agony. | |
| "... Mummy," she whimpered. She sounded like a small child who had lost her way in a shopping mall. She sniffed, and looked up to the nurse. Although she smiled, Annabella could see that look in the nurse's green eyes. The look that simply said, "Just let me get on with this and I can get an early leave for my break. I really don't care what happened." And with this thought, the motherless child cried quietly to herself again refusing to speak. |
