I like a story where you wish you were in the world despite the dangers involved. Eg: Harry Potter. I want to do magic and attend Hogwarts, I'd be a genius there, I'm POSITIVE! I would be so fascinated by it all, I wouldn't slack off on the work! Oh... that evil, powerful wizard who enjoys killing people and has a large following that likes to kill too? Well... what about him? Potter deals with him in the seventh book so who gives a?

Another example: His Dark Materials. Who cares about the magisterium and all that dangerous stuff -- I SO picture myself with a daemon! Whenever I finish reading the set I always start thinking that I really and truly have one. Just like when I play the Sims for too long and begin to wonder if I am one... my food level is at 50%, better go get a box of juice and some chips and take a ridiculously long time to finish eating it when I need to get in my rusted carpool to go to work.

So you get my drift. I love a story that makes stuff up and makes me wish for it to be real. Like Edward Cullen. Oh, what, he's a vampire and crush me in a moment? Oh well, whatever, he'll love me so he won't.

So, yeah, I try my hardest to write like that. Another thing I like is an honest realism. Death in HP, organized corruption as addressed in HDM as well as the theological debate... I like a story with a point, something based in reality, allowed to float off like a hot air balloon of fantasies but still anchored in truth.
