I am the writer formerly know as Thistle.
I recently changed my screen name because, because I wanted to. Sorry to those of who who didn't get a system notification and have been wonderring who this strange new person is. I am, indeed, strange, but I am not new.
I have predominately written poetry, lyrics and songs, but I recently decided to try my hand at story writing--what with that StoryWrite link always looking at me from the bottom of the AllPoetry pages and all.
You may find that much of my writing reflects a certain attitude developed from living in a world that is overly concerned with monetary success and good looks. As if either of those things actually have the capacity to make us happy.
I write because I want to. At my age, I do most of the things I do because I want to. I am quite the late bloomer in that it took me a while to realize that approving of myself is much more important than gaining the approval of the world around me.
When I am not traipsing around the site with an eye open for inspiration, I am a part time fitness technician for Curves and an online gamer. I love my job and hope to keep it till the day I die. I also love online gaming.
Currently I play Asheron's Call Throne of Destiny. It is a gaming community that I have been a part of on and off since it went retail in Nov '99. I have taken breaks here and there, but I always end up going back because, again, I want to.
I am hoping to put together some good fan fiction. The operative word there would be good. It is a gaming environment that I truly enjoy because the lore is not at all the norm. There are no elves or fairies there. The creatures, locations, etc exhibit a very original creative concept and it sparks my imagination.
I live in the oil field flat lands of West Texas, so imagination is key to survival. If a person doesn't look deep around here, they will miss the beauty because it isn't always apparant at first glance. It is there, all the same.
That probably reflects in my writing and the way I view others writing. When I read a story, I have a tendency to approach it from the view of it's intended audience. This helps me be less judgemental of genres that I am not so fond of and allows me to actually enjoy what I am reading. It is a fact that when an author writes something, they have a particular audience in mind. If the write hits its target, then it has served its intended purpose.
All that said, feel free to poke around in my pile of papers both here and on the AllPoetry sister site. Honest oppinions are always welcome and I rate all comments with 5 stars whether you tell me what I want to hear or not. I appreciate readers, period.
Readers are the life blood of a writer's existence. Without readers, we are simply a prettied up blast of creative flatulence. So read and enjoy or read and express your displeasure. As long as you are reading and giving honest oppinions and appraisals, you are doing me a great service and I thank you for it.

Dear God, 1 This day has begun brutally cold. As I cranked up the heater, I couldn't help but think about those people who have no heat and those who have no shelter. It leaves me feeling like the lucky one. I know, I know, there are those who would tell me that blessed would be the appropriate term, but it

Dear God, 1 I just don't get it. Any of it. In fact, I am not even entirely sure what "it" is. Surely I am not the only one with questions. Sometimes I think that we have been taught somehow that asking questions is a bad thing so we follow our belief systems blindly and they come up hollow because they ar

How was your day? Mine was eh, ok. Actually I always feel pretty lame finding fault with any day. Most days above ground sucking air definately beat the alternative. Some days seem to be more meaningful than others though. Or maybe it is just that I attach more meaning to some days than others. 1 There was nOctober 6, 2009, 200 words. → 1 comment, Add one?
