Hello, all. My name is Catherine, but you may call me Cat. I love to read and write, but my life is mostly music. Here are all the instruments I can play (even if not so good): piano, flute, alto flute, piccolo, trumpet, clarinet, guitar, and front ensemble (mallets). I might be forgetting something, lol. =)
Anyways, MUSIC IS MY LIFE! I'm currently a music major in college, and wish to be a high school marching band teacher. Why high school? Well, not elementary, of course. They hardly have music there, and in some cases, none whatsoever. Not middle, because they only are learning their instruments. I don't want to be the teacher to teach the kids their instruments. Or if it's a really advanced community, and they DID have a really good music in elementary, I wouldn't be teaching them their instruments, but where's the marching band? I have only heard of two middle school's with a marching band before, and they don't even compete! And that's what I like most. So that's a no on college, too. College's sure have marching bands, but they only perform-they never compete. Performing is just not the same...
So why marching band?
~~Marching Band~~
The gravel under your feet walking in
The smiles when you've seen your friends
The moaning of us going to the field
The chant of numbers as we stretch
The drum majors telling us to get our acts together
The soft thud as we go down to do pushups
The excited cheer as we end practice
The nervousness when we load the busses
The silent breaths we take when waiting
The sound of our directors giving us a pep talk
The noise of the audience before we start
The audience giving us a standing ovation
The coldness of our ears sitting in the stands
The prayer that we got a good placement
The hopefulness as the awards are announced
The yelling and screaming when we get Sweepstakes
The happiness we see in ourselves and our directors
The hugs given to your friends and even your enemies
But most importantly...
The feeling of Achievement

I also got recently hooked on drum and bugle corps; summer of 2008 was my first year. I marched with Impulse. We only made it to the semi-finals, but it was a great experience that I will never forget. Plus I met some awesome people there. I marched with them again for the 2009 season, and had a great time, but it's time for me to move on. For the 2010 season (next year), I will do another corps (either Vanguard Cadets, Blue Devils B, or Gold).

crosscountry07 on September 30, 2008DUDE! You do DCI? I was thinking of auditioning for the Blue Knights this year! I do colorguard and I play the clarinet! Marching band is the stuff! I miss it so much! I now coach the colorguard at my old high school. That seriously rocks though! And I met my boyfriend through a summer band deal too! -Liz
