ElysiahShow stories

Hello. As you can tell, I'm Elysiah; real name being Carly. Feel free to call me by either, though! I also go by Rose.

I'm a fairly normal girl who's a junior in high school. I love writing, journalistic and fictional, and I write and edit for the school newspaper while writing stories on the side as a hobby. I believe I am a talented writer, but I still have much to learn and much to improve upon. I do not believe I'm a very talented poet, but I'm getting back into poetry to see if I can improve. It's worth a try, after all. It couldn't hurt to try to write in verse form, but prose will always be my favorite.

I'm taking my first Advanced Placement English class this semester, AP English Language and Composition. I'm the only one I know who enjoys reading grammar books and learning about the English language. In fact, I enjoy all languages and I'm taking my fourth year of French. According to my parents, I've always had a talent for learning and understanding languages quickly.

I consider myself a nerd in many different ways. I love video games, computers, anime/manga, reading (my friends call me a book nerd and I absolutely LOVE Shakespeare), and writing--of course.

I love shows such as The Daily Show and the Colbert Report (I absolutely love political satire), Scrubs, House, The Office, My Name Is Earl, and 30 Rock.

My favorite movie/musical is RENT.

Some of my favorite books are the Ender's series by Orson Scott Card and the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer.

My favorite band of all time is Muse, with Linkin Park as my second favorite. I've seen both of them live and they are absolutely amazing. I wish I could meet them and interview them. (And glomp them of course!) I also love Within Temptation, Placebo, Franz Ferdinand, Coldplay, Rammstein, U2, Evanescence, Pink Floyd, Snow Patrol, My Chemical Romance, Three Days Grace,

I am currently reading The Loved One by Evelyn Waugh and Naked Pictures of Famous People by Jon Stewart. (No, it's not what it sounds like.)

I am currently writing a story I haven't figured out a title for.

I love humor but I often have a hard time writing it nowadays. I believe my best works are often essays (whether it be about a book or an insightful idea), but I will struggle on writing fiction nonetheless.

    ROSE of all Roses, Rose of all the World!
    The tall thought-woven sails, that flap unfurled
    Above the tide of hours, trouble the air,
    And God's bell buoyed to be the water's care;
    While hushed from fear, or loud with hope, a band
    With blown, spray-dabbled hair gather at hand,
    i{Turn if you may from battles never done,}
    I call, as they go by me one by one,
    i{Danger no refuge holds, and war no peace,}
    i{For him who hears love sing and never cease,}
    i{Beside her clean-swept hearth, her quiet shade:}
    i{But gather all for whom no love hath made}
    i{A woven silence, or but came to cast}
    i{A song into the air, and singing passed}
    i{To smile on the pale dawn; and gather you}
    i{Who have sougft more than is in rain or dew,}
    i{Or in the sun and moon, or on the earth,}
    i{Or sighs amid the wandering, starry mirth,}
    i{Or comes in laughter from the sea's sad lips,}
    i{And wage God's battles in the long grey ships.}
    i{The sad, the lonely, the insatiable,}
    i{To these Old Night shall all her mystery tell;}
    i{God's bell has claimed them by the little cry}
    i{Of their sad hearts, that may not live nor die.}
    Rose of all Roses, Rose of all the World!
    You, too, have come where the dim tides are hurled
    Upon the wharves of sorrow, and heard ring
    The bell that calls us on; the sweet far thing.
    Beauty grown sad with its eternity
    Made you of us, and of the dim grey sea.
    Our long ships loose thought-woven sails and wait,
    For God has bid them share an equal fate;
    And when at last, defeated in His wars,
    They have gone down under the same white stars,
    We shall no longer hear the little cry
    Of our sad hearts, that may not live nor die.
