Cajun.LullabyShow stories

Salut from the Last Frontier! My name is Xeno, but you can call me Cajun, Lullaby, or Rainy, as many people on this site have adopted for me. Call me anything, really, just don’t call me late for dinner.

Born and raised in northern-lower Michigan, I moved to Alaska with my mother in December of 2003; we have resided there ever since. I am in between colleges at the moment, but I keep busy with both acting and learning to play the fiddle; I play primarily Cajun-style and Bluegrass. While I am currently acting in theatrical productions outside of my university endeavors, I do have plans to complete my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice either here in Alaska or in Louisiana before I go on to law school in Baton Rouge.

You may find sporadic French or Cajun phrases littering my page; please don’t be deterred! While I am far from fluent in either language, I am endeavoring to learn both. Cajun French is a combination of traditional French and Acadian, brought to southern Louisiana by the Acadian people after their exile from Canada around 1764. If you ever feel the need to ask, though, for a French or Cajun translation, please feel free to do so. If I don’t know the answer immediately, I certainly have the resources here to find what you're looking for!

Dans tous les cas, I currently share an apartment with my mother and our five wonderful pets: we have my mother’s lynx-point Himalayan cat named Reliq, and my menagerie - I have two dogs, a K9-trained Rottweiler mix named Felony Rose and a Pit Bull named Bourré, a lynx-point Siamese cat named Xanie, and a crawdad named Gambit. Since I’m not having any children (ever), they’re my fur-babies and I spoil them rotten.

My perfect evening would be spent sitting on the front porch swing on an autumn night with a glass of homemade lemonade or sweet tea and my old guitar, then later, a walk through the countryside while the lightning bugs flickered in their wanton quest for love. The perfect conclusion would be watching as storm clouds rolled in, concealing the moon and stars, and dancing in the rain as lightning lights up the sky and thunder rumbles along the distant horizon. That's the kind of evening dreams are made of.

My name is Sarah and I am but three,
My eyes are swollen, I cannot see,
I must be stupid, I must be bad,
What else could have made my daddy so mad?
I wish I were better, I wish I weren't ugly,
Then maybe my mommy would still want to hug me.
I can't speak at all, I can't do a wrong
Or else I'm locked up all the day long
When I awake I'm all alone
The house is dark, my folks aren't home.
When my mommy does come I'll try and be nice,
So maybe I'll get just one whipping tonight
Don't make a sound! I just heard a car
My daddy is back from Charlie's Bar.
I hear him curse, my name he calls
I press myself against the wall.
I try and hide from his evil eyes
I'm so afraid now I'm starting to cry.
He finds me weeping, he shouts ugly words,
He says its my fault that he suffers at work.
He slaps me and hits me and yells at me more,
I finally get free and I run for the door.
He's already locked it and I start to bawl,
He takes me and throws me against the hard wall.
I fall to the floor with my bones nearly broken,
And my daddy continues with more bad words spoken.
"I'm sorry!" I scream but its now much too late
His face has been twisted into unimaginable hate.
The hurt and the pain, again and again
Oh please God, have mercy! Oh please let it end!
And he finally stops and heads for the door,
While I lay there motionless, sprawled on the floor.
My name is Sarah and I am but three,
Tonight my daddy murdered me.

True love is hard to find, but when you do find it, there is nothing stronger. This is an illustration of what true love is:

A young lady and her boyfriend were on a motorcycle, traveling over 90 mph on the road:

Girl: Slow down. I’m scared.
Guy: No, this is fun.
Girl: No, it’s not. Please, it’s too scary!
Guy: Then tell me you love me.
Girl: Fine, I love you. Slow down!
Guy: Now give me a BIG hug.
~*Girl hugs him*~
Guy: Now, can you take my helmet off and put it on yourself? It’s bugging me.

In the newspaper the next day, the report read:

A motorcycle crashed into a building by the cause of brake failure. Two people were on it; only one survived.

The truth was that halfway down the road, the guy realized that his brakes were out, but he didn’t want to let the girl know. Instead, he had her say she loved him and felt her hug one last time, then had her wear his helmet so that she would live even though it meant that he would die.

This is the ultimate sacrifice that true love can make. If you would make this kind of sacrifice for the ones you love, please post this on your page.

For those of us who still believe that the United States of America remains "One nation, Under GOD”:

One day a young girl was sitting in a classroom. The Teacher was explaining evolution to the children. The Teacher addressed a little boy:

TEACHER: Tommy, do you see the tree outside?
TOMMY: Yes.
TEACHER: Okay. Do you see the grass outside?
TOMMY: Yes.
TEACHER: Go outside and look up. See if you can see the sky.
TOMMY: Okay.
~*Tommy exits. He returns a few minutes later.*~
TOMMY (Continued): Yes, I saw the sky.
TEACHER: Did you see GOD?
TOMMY: No.
TEACHER: That's my point. We can't see GOD because HE isn't there. He simply doesn't exist.

The little girl spoke up, then, wanting to ask the boy some questions. The Teacher agreed.

LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, did you see the tree outside?
TOMMY: Yes.
LITTLE GIRL: Did you see the grass outside?
TOMMY: Yessssss!
LITTLE GIRL: Did you see the sky?
TOMMY: Yessssss!
LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the Teacher?
TOMMY: Yes
LITTLE GIRL: Do you see her brain?
TOMMY: No!
LITTLE GIRL: Then according to what we were taught today . . .she doesn't have one. . .

"For we walk by FAITH, not by SIGHT."

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Ending thoughts:

(The following is the brief speech I gave at my high school graduation ceremony on 7 June 2008. Congratulations to RCS's class of 2008 - we did it!)

We live in a capitalist society, a society in which it is inevitable that those with riches shall prosper while those of lesser status are left to scratch and clamor their way to the top. But within the grasp of all men there is a treasure which can be acquired at any stage in life and that can never be taken away. It is a treasure that no archaeologist can ever dig up, no museum can ever display, and no grave robber can ever thieve. That treasure is knowledge, the very thing that we are honoring here today.

The ancient Greek historian, Thucydides, once said, “The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding go out to meet it.” There is no better way to prepare oneself for the great life’s journey which lies before each of us, than to learn. To have knowledge is to be forever rich and to forever possess the boldness and ability to follow the visions and dreams we seek. The truth is, we can never stop learning! We grow richer every day. ~X.L.C.
