My name is Alan Freckelton. I am 38-year-old lawyer from Canberra, Australia and have been writing on and off since about 1995. I am married to Vikki with 7 children - Katherine (20.5), Heather (18), Michael (10), David (8.5), Declan (6.5), Jasmine (4.5) and Xavier (7 months as at 9 September 2009).
A lot of my stories are written on commission from my kids, particularly the three middle boys, but they are not children's stories as such. For example, Michael, who knows almost everything there is to know about the solar system and has no doubt he will be the first person on Mars, commissioned a story about Titan to commemmorate the landing of the Huygens probe, and the result was a story about the first humans to land there.
I also make liberal use of my kids' names in stories. The six characters in "Just Like Home" have the same names as my children (those that had been born at the time), and all six names also appear in my script for a film based on the DC Comics Character "The Spectre". (So does a "Vicki", but there is only one "Vikki'!) My next story, whenever that might be, will feature a Xavier!
